Pasture-Raised Eggs and Chickens

Pasture raised chickens

The flavor of our pasture-raised chickens and eggs is amazing–both hearty and healthy, this is good for you food! Knowing that these birds have been raised humanely makes your meal even better.

Beyond free-range, beyond cage free, there exists a more natural chicken habitat, and that is Pasture-Raised! In the summer months, our egg yolks are golden, almost orange, due to the varied diet the girls get from clover, grasses and whatever else they find for themselves.  And with our pasture-raised broiler chickens, the meat is hearty with a texture that lets you know you are biting into a piece of meat.  Don’t forget to save the bones for a rich soup broth.  We have folks who moved away from their family’s farm decades ago say that these chickens remind them of how food used to taste.

Our laying hens produce brown eggs.  The hens themselves are a variety of dual-purpose birds that become our stewing hens when they are no longer producing enough eggs to earn their keep.  Our broiler chickens are Cornish-crosses that produce abundant meat on their carcass.  To avoid the common challenges of raising these fast growing birds, we monitor the amount of feed we give them so they grow at a sustainable pace. They get plenty of exercise as they rotate across our pastures so their bodies are strong and healthy.

Our birds are certified by the Washington State Department of Agriculture, which means they were butchered in a clean facility subject to inspections.  We do the butchering ourselves, so the treatment of the birds and the quality of the processing is under our scrutiny at all times.
